It’s Veterans Day. Yesterday, I was on an airplane that was carrying home a soldier to be laid to rest, killed in action. He was escorted by a Marine who didn’t even look old enough to legally buy a beer. We send children to fight our wars.
These photos here are my father in Germany in World War II. Before the war he wanted to be a doctor. After serving on the front lines as a medic, and liberating a Nazi concentration camp, he changed his mind. He had seen enough death for 10 lifetimes.
War changes a person. So on this Veterans Day, as we have a new president who has made so many promises to our servicemen and women and our veterans, I wish for all those promises to be kept, and most of all, I wish for peace on Earth.
Thank you all for your service.
